A banned driver crashed into the back of an ambulance after running a red traffic light while being chased by police, the sheriff court has heard.
Craig Guild drove dangerously and without insurance in various streets around the Hilltown and Coldside areas before colliding with the ambulance on Caird Avenue on March 26.
Guild, 38, of Albert Street, had previously admitted six charges in total, including breaching two community payback orders and shoplifting in Dundee.
He was jailed for a total of 17 months by Sheriff George Way when he appeared for sentence.
Guild admitted that on March 26 – on various roads including the city’s Clepington Road, Strathmartine Road, Hepburn Street and Caird Avenue – he used a car without insurance, while he was on bail.
He further admitted driving while disqualified on the same date and on the same roads, also while on bail.
He also admitted driving dangerously, at excessive speeds for the road and conditions, failing to stop when required to do so by PC Daniel Hobbs in a marked police vehicle which had activated its blue flashing lights and sirens, failing to comply with a red light and colliding with the rear of an ambulance, losing control of his vehicle and colliding with a wall, again while on bail, on the same streets on the same date.
Guild had also previously admitted failing to comply with social workers on the two community payback orders, which had been imposed after he admitted stalking his ex-girlfriend over a three-month period between December 2016 and February 2017; and shoplifting from TK Maxx in Dundee on February 2 2016.
Guild had also previously admitted shoplifting from Curry’s at Kingsway West retail park on February 14 2015, from Machine Mart in Trades Lane on June 19 and July 6 2017, stealing tools, and on April 24 and 26 2017, stealing electrical and electronic equipment from Maplin Electronics at Kingsway West Retail Park.
Sheriff Way also disqualified Guild for five years and ordered him to resit the extended test before he can drive again.
