GE2017 morning blog – Wato you doing?

Wato Kuate celebrates his goal with the fans.
Wato Kuate celebrates his goal with the fans.

A warning to politicians everywhere. You can go from being a cult hero to being the subject of ire from your supporters in less than 90 minutes.

Just ask Wato Kuate. The Dundee United midfielder was talking himself up as the best player in the world in his position after scoring a cracker against Greenock Morton.

“I agree with Wato,” was the cry.

Then he had a nightmare against Falkirk, contributed to the opposition’s two goals and reneged on his free tuition pledge.

Incidentally, the Liberal Democrats launch their manifesto today.

The party is confident of picking up seats in Scotland, with Scottish leader Willie Rennie leading the charge in terms of photo calls while “tiger” Tim Farron prowls around the UK in his campaigning bus.

Nicola Sturgeon has been out early this morning to campaign in Musselburgh while Tasmina Ahmed Sheikh, her candidate in Ochil and South Perthshire, has been in the headlines around a probe by the Law Society Scotland.

Alas the society has been less than helpful. I asked them if an investigating was ongoing, only to be told: “We are not making any comment.”

Is not commenting on the details of ongoing investigations standard practice?

“I can’t comment on that,” was the response.

Elsewhere, Kezia Dugdale is making a speech in Glasgow and a Tory-led Holyrood debate on education is bound to get feisty.

Unemployment in Scotland has also fallen to below UK rate.

Although these stats come out every month, this set, the last before the general election, are bound to get pulled into the campaign narrative.
