Dundee hero Craig Wighton set for move to Hearts in six-figure deal

A flurry of transfer activity involving Dundee is set to continue on Wednesday with the departure of young star Craig Wighton to Hearts.

The Scotland under-21 international is expected to travel to Tynecastle to go through a medical and then put pen to paper in what is expected to be a six-figure deal.

Wighton’s move will follow on from the arrival at Dens of experienced ex-Scotland striker Kenny Miller that would have left him down the pecking order with the Dark Blues.

Although his first team appearances have been limited since he returned from a serious knee injury late last season, the 21-year-old has continued to be watched by a string of clubs from both sides of the border.

Their number included Scottish Champions Celtic, but with the Jambos moving swiftly, his future lies with the current Premiership leaders.

The move will end the young Dundonian’s six-year association with his boyhood heroes, for whom he signed as a schoolboy after spurning offers from a host of other outfits, including Dundee United.

It’s not the first time Hearts have looked to the city of Dundee to snap up emerging talent – two years ago they snatch defender John Souttar from United.

This week saw the 21-year old named in the Scotland squad for the first time.
