Bowman’s new Dundee United role is vital says boss Csaba

Manager Csaba Laszlo is delighted Dundee United legend Dave Bowman has agreed to take on the new role of the club’s Scottish scout.

It will see ‘Bow’ take on responsibility of identifying players already operating north of the border who could become signing targets for the Tangerines.

And during the season he will be the man who makes sure Csaba knows exactly what to expect from future opposition.

“I am very happy about Bow’s decision to be our scout. He will look for new players for us and he has experience in this direction, so I know he will recommend the right people,” said Csaba.

“He will also look at opposition and this is vital for us. He is very close to the first team and it is an important position.

“Paul Sturrock is doing a lot of work, but he will more or less be down in England and Bow will be here as our man on the ground.”

Meanwhile, having signed nine players already this summer, the pace of the rebuilding is set to slow, though there will be more new arrivals in the coming weeks.

For Csaba it is important that most of the players he wanted were secured in time for pre-season training getting under way on Thursday.

“For the pre-season, more or less 90% of the team must be ready,” added Csaba.

“You have to prepare the team, so it was important we had made these signings.

“The majority of players we wished for and who we talked to are here.”

United are still in the market for another central defender, while one more striker could be added to the squad in the coming weeks.

That could see a number of trialists joining up for training and possibly even games, though Csaba has decided against arranging a closed-door game in which an entire line-up of players looking to earn a contract would be used.

“Maybe there are one or two possibilities for that (trialists), but if you have to go on trial, for me, there is something wrong.

“I am not against loan players but they must be one who can help the team and they have to have ambition.”

Fans will get their first look at the new signings in a friendly at Brechin on Tuesday week.

So far that’s the only pre-season game fixed up, but at least one more is likely to be confirmed soon.
