Dundee have made a move to bring star attacker Greg Stewart back to Dens Park.
But right now it looks odds-on the 26-year-old will be staying south of the border with Birmingham City.
Stewart moved there from Dens in a £500,000 deal in August.
Since then, he’s played just seven games for the Championship outfit.
And only one of those appearances has been part of the starting line-up.
He’s also still looking for his first goal in English football.
On Sunday, he was an unused sub in the Birmingham derby and watched his team battle back from a goal down to earned a draw with local rivals Aston Villa.
That inactivity and their own lack of goals prompted Dundee to make an enquiry about bringing him back north for a spell.
The Tele understands it would have been on a loan basis, starting when the next transfer window opens in January.
Despite Stewart’s lack of game time, City boss Gary Rowatt has indicated he doesn’t want his new boy going anywhere.
He believes once the former Cowdenbeath man has settled into life in the English game, he will develop into an important player.
That means the matter looks dead but the one ray of hope for the Dark Blues could be that if Stewart continues to spend most of his time on the bench, Rowatt could have a change of mind by the turn of the year and send him out on loan to get game time.
Stewart’s former strike partner Kane Hemmings is also struggling at his new club.
He’s scored just three goals for Oxford and has been dropped recently.
