Blow for Dundee United as key defenders to miss Falkirk clash

Two Dundee United centre-halves will sit out Saturday’s clash at Falkirk.

However, that brings good as well as bad news for the Tangerines.

Because missing from the Bairns ranks will be William Edjenguele, who under the terms of his loan deal isn’t allowed to face parent club United.

And Tannadice boss Robbie Neilson believes that will be a big blow to the home side.

“We’ve been keeping tabs on William and he’s been doing very well for them,” he said.

“Not having him against us will be a big blow.”

Robbie has confirmed playing on plastic for the second week running means he won’t consider Mark Reynolds.

The man on loan from Aberdeen tore a cruciate ligament in a pre-season friendly on Cove Rangers’ artificial surface and, for the time being at least, wants to avoid playing on them.

Although Reynolds has been training on the plastic surface at United’s base in St Andrew’s, he was left out for the weekend win at Queen of the South.

“We just felt it was maybe a wee bit too soon for him and he won’t be involved at Falkirk either,” added Robbie.

“He’s still just a wee bit wary of those surfaces.”

Fellow-defender Mark Connolly missed the trip to Queen of the South because of a thigh strain picked up in training last Friday, but is on course to return this week.

Yesterday,  United’s second string were in Reserve League action against Hamilton Accies.

Reynolds was given a run out in order to help him maintain his match fitness.
