U2 frontman Bono backs Dundee charity’s Maywave campaign

A Dundee charity campaigner received a celebrity boost when U2 frontman Bono took part in the Maywave campaign.
The project aims to build an orphanage in an impoverished suburb in Gweru, Zimbabwe, and save 30 children from the streets.
It is run by the Champions for Children charity, which is based in Dundee.
Bono, a noted philanthropist, sent a picture of himself waving to kids at the orphanage.
It is not known if or how much he donated to the campaign, which needs at least £40,000 to save the orphanage.
Without the new building, the 30 children would be back on the streets.
Alan Calder-McNicoll said: “We’re asking people to take a selfie, waving and connecting with these kids, and also to waive something it could be a pizza or a cup of coffee or something much bigger and donate the difference to the charity.
“Selfies will be placed on the wall of the new orphanage alongside Bono.”
Donations can be made by texting MAYW99 and an amount to 70070.
