Tonight will see a fireworks display in Arbroath to mark the 200th anniversary of the Bell Rock lighthouse.
Fireworks company 21cc has made a pyrotechnic version of the Bell Rock that will light up for one minute to ensure the celebrations begin with a bang.
The eight-metre copy will feature fireworks coming out of it to replicate the light that shines from the Bell Rock. The display at Inchcape Park will be accompanied by music from the days when the Bell Rock was built.
Around 2000 people are expected to attend and organisers are praying for good weather.
Steering committee member Howard Cargill said, “Arbroath will not see a display like this again for a very long time. We’ve probably been meeting now for nearly two years and it’s absolutely fantastic the way the community has come together and pulled out the stops to help.
“We would like to see a couple of thousand people turning out and we would ask them to come as early as possible because parking will be at a premium.
“There has certainly been a great amount of interest on the Bell Rock website from visitors from across the world so hopefully it will attract people from near and far.
“Hopefully we will see them back in Arbroath during the year at one of the many things that will be going on in the town during the Year of the Light.”
The Earl of Southesk will start the countdown to the fireworks display at 7.30pm and the event will also feature a fun fair and stalls. For more information on the festivities visit www.angusahead.com/bellrocklighthouse
