Residents in an Angus village have marked the 20th anniversary of a cycle route which links it with Europe.
Easthaven resident Ron Brown led on the building of a cairn which will enhance the welcome for visitors on their arrival to the historic village.
Funding to build a natural stone cairn was made possible through income generated by the Tesco carrier bag scheme administered by Beautiful Scotland.
The cairn has been built to celebrate 20 years of the National Cycle Network which now extends over 12,600 miles and carries a million walking and cycling journeys every single day.
Easthaven is part of Route 1 of the National Cycle Network which stretches up the east coast from Dover to Shetland and is also part of the North Sea Cycle Route a 6,200km loop linking all the countries bordering the North Sea.
Angus Council has also supported residents by designing an interpretation board highlighting the coastal routes and key points of interest.
Resident Sandie Wright said: “Many people do not realise that National Cycle Route 1 passes through eight different countries and Easthaven to Elliot is arguably one of the most beautiful stretches of the network.
“Sustrans has supported residents in the planning of the project and provided funds for planting on the coastal path.”
A stone table has also been built alongside the cairn to provide free juice and biscuits for cyclists and walkers in support of Mary’s Meals.
Last year resident Morag Tindal raised more than £600 for the charity and a secure donation tin has been built into part of the cairn.
