Two men in their 60s are due in court following the recovery of heroin worth a four-figure sum in an Angus raid on Thursday night.

The arrests followed a drugs operation in Arbroath carried out under Operation Ajax, launched at the end of last year across Angus.

It is understood those detained will appear at Forfar sheriff court on Friday.

Around £1,700 worth of the class A drug was seized.

Operation Ajax has already seen dozens of arrests in the crackdown on anti-social behaviour and violence.

The operation has included high-visibility patrols throughout the district, with almost 50 offenders who were the subject of outstanding arrest warrants detained.

Angus area commander Chief Inspector Gordon Milne said: “Angus is a safe place to live, work and play. We have low levels of crime and, in general, the majority of people across our towns and villages behave themselves and don’t get into trouble.

“However, there is a very small minority who get involved in violence, get into fights, drink too much alcohol, are involved in incidents of domestic abuse and who use violence when stealing other people’s property.”

“Those individuals who think they can cause misery to others are simply bullies, and this behaviour will not be tolerated.

“They will be left in no doubt that unless they change their ways, we will be doing everything in our power to make sure they get the message loud and clear.”
