A 20-year-old Angus man lost his battle with cancer only two days after he was due to get married.
Reese Maison from Arbroath, was diagnosed with testicular cancer two years ago.
Speaking at the home they shared, his fiancee Kayleigh said they had been looking forward to tying the knot on Tuesday last week.
Reese attended a routine appointment at Ninewells Hospital the day before, and never left.
He had been receiving treatment at Ninewells, including chemotherapy, since his diagnosis, and both he and Kayleigh believed things were going well.
She said: “Reese walked into that hospital himself on the Monday and he never walked out again. His lungs were very poorly and he went downhill very quickly, so they decided to keep him in.
“We had been planning to go shopping for last-minute bits and pieces for our wedding after the appointment but we never got to do that.”
Now Kayleigh’s wedding dress is hanging unworn, and the planned small ceremony and meal for close family and friends never took place.
She stayed at the hospital with Reese until he succumbed to his illness last Thursday.
Kayleigh said: “Reese was the love of my life he just wanted to get better and lead a normal life.
“He was always joking and laughing, right up until the day before he died when he couldn’t talk anymore.
“He made the nurses laugh and they kept telling him he was really cheeky.
“I’m going to be asking some of them to come to the funeral because they got on so well with Reese and they were so good to him.”
Kayleigh met Reese just over two years ago when she lived in Montrose, where he worked at the time.
His illness was diagnosed not long afterwards.
He discovered he had testicular cancer following bleeding in his stomach.
The couple moved to Arbroath, but Reese was unable to work and Kayleigh stayed at home to look after him.
They shared a love of animals and enjoyed looking after two cats, two budgies, a turtle and hamster.
Kayleigh said: “Reese loved his animals and now I’m looking after them all.
“I am missing him already. I don’t know what I am going to do now.”
In 2013, Reese spoke of his struggle to make ends meet on £56 weekly benefit while making frequent trips to Ninewells for chemotherapy.
Cancer charity Clic Sargent helped Reese to fill out his application forms for benefits.
