Angus residents vow to fight ‘as one’ against planned cuts to sheltered housing wardens

Sheltered housing residents have drawn the battle lines in the fight against controversial proposals.

Residents have claimed the ‘changes’ are already a done deal and the current consultation process is simply a box ticking exercise.

But Angus Council has stressed that all opinions will be taken into account as it analyses changes in how older people want to live.

Residents are up in arms about the thought of losing their wardens and community lounges which they say is one of the last bastions for tenants to meet together.

Thomas Fowler, 70, who lives with his wife in sheltered housing in Letham, said he believes the council has already made up its mind.

“They have come here but they will not take our views into consideration,” he said.

Residents of all sheltered housing complexes in Angus are now being urged to come together and fight “as one”.

“We might be old but we are certainly not past it,” said one resident in Kirriemuir, following the consultation.
