The Car Practical Driving Test: Operational Statistics data published recently revealed the Angus towns are leading the way and not just in Courier country, but in the whole UK.
Arbroath based driving instructor Lez Wells said he wasn’t surprised by the latest figures.
He said: “I’ve had quite a few of my students pass first time.
“This year alone I’ve had five young ladies pass first time with no faults.
“There is no doubt about it Arbroath is one of the best places to sit your test.
“Our pass rates are always quite high.
“I’ve worked in Glasgow and everywhere and the pass rates in Arbroath are extremely high.”
Researchers have also found that in the two Angus towns, Arbroath and Forfar, 52 candidates passed first time had no faults, accounting for 7% of all those tested in the towns.
Across the UK, only 1% of learners managed perfect first time passes, however in Montrose 6% achieved perfection, while in Dundee 74 learners managed the feat, (3%).
Less than half of Fife drivers sitting their tests in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy passed first time, with 45% and 49% of learners passing respectively.
A little less than 2% of Kirkcaldy learners achieved the first time pass with no faults, and less than 1% in Dunfermline.
The statistics come from data held by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), and are compiled and published by staff in DVSA.
