Police in Dundee investigate possible “dognapping”

Thieves may have been trying to steal a dog when they broke into a car parked in a Dundee supermarket, it has been claimed.
The Missing Pets, Dundee and Angus Facebook page posted a message today alerting its followers to the incident in the car park of Asda Kirkton in Derwent Avenue on Sunday afternoon.
It stated: “One our viewers of page has had a very frighting experience at Asda Kirkton.
“Her car window had been smashed and the police are saying her dog was most likely the target.
“Dognapping was the word used, We are posting this as a warning to all dog lovers in Dundee, when you tie your dog up outside or leaving them in cars just be aware that there are criminals in the area. This was a very frightening experience.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Divsion said a rear window of a silver Ford Mondeo was broken between 2.20pm and 2.45pm on Sunday.
They are currently investigating the incident.
The dog’s owner declined to speak to the Press.
