The life, faith and service of Brother Bede, former rector of St John’s RC High School, has been remembered at a service in Dundee.
A memorial mass was held at St Mary’s, Our Lady of Victories Church, on Wednesday evening attended by many of his former colleagues, friends and pupils.
Vincent Logan, Bishop Emeritus of Dunkeld, was principal celebrant.
Brother Bede died in June aged 92.
Originally from Jarrow in Tyne and Wear, upon joining the Marist Brothers he took his religious name in honour of the Venerable Bede, the Anglo-Saxon theologian and historian who was a monk in his home town.
Brother Bede spent 26 years as rector of St John’s, including the harrowing episode in 1967 when a teacher was killed during a classroom siege.
After his retirement in 1992 he visited Jerusalem and Cameroon.
He was the first recipient of the Dunkeld Diocesan Medal in recognition of his service to the diocese.
