‘We stood up for ourselves’ City Quay residents force out property factors Ross and Liddell

Lynne Noble and Grant Mulholland led the fight against Ross and Liddell.

Unpopular City Quay factors Ross and Liddell have been evicted after a majority vote by residents.

The firm were given their marching orders after a long battle by owners, who now fear they are about to be hit with a £25,000 bill in a parting shot by the company.

In a letter prior to their termination, Ross and Liddell informed residents £25,800 was owed by 11 non-paying residents.

At that time the firm stated its intention was to spread the outstanding debt between all 96 owners.

A spokesman for the company said the current figure is lower but refused to disclose the amount to The Courier.

Residents claim they have been kept in the dark.

Grant Mulholland, chairman of the Phase One Merchants Quay Residents Association, said: “We don’t know how much it is because they haven’t told us.

“The figure they gave us last month was for £25,823 and there wasn’t anything further in Ross and Liddell’s termination letter. That’s the only figure we’ve got.”

Mr Mulholland said the company already has £250 from each property, which it could now try to withhold, but nonetheless residents are still “really chuffed” with the outcome.

He said: “At first we thought it was too much hassle to take them on and it has taken a long, long time but we stood up for ourselves.”

The resignation from phase one of the Merchants Quay is effective from the end of this month and followed a vote by owners conducted by Ross and Liddell.

The company would not disclose to The Courier how many of the 96 owners had asked the firm to leave.

Resident Victoria Tait said she was delighted.

She added: “It’s great news for the residents who have battled for years for a better service and value for money and who have refrained from backing down in their cause, despite continuous intimidation from Ross and Liddell.

“Phases two, four and five at City Quay are also trying to remove Ross and Liddell as property managers and are facing similar intimidation and obstacles from them.

“We hope that this will give them the boost they need to keep going.”

A spokesman for Ross and Liddell said: “The co-proprietors have been informed with regards to debts outstanding. If and when there is anything further to report all owners will be advised accordingly.”

The residents’ association has invited Ross and Liddell, along with the new factors Graham and Sibbald, to a meeting it is holding next week.
