A disabled children’s play facility has secured temporary premises in Dundee.

Edinburgh-based The Yard, a company with charitable status, has been working with the Hush Club in Dundee and will launch the service for under-12s in the autumn.

The centre will open its doors at 14 Drumlanrig Place and the company hopes to have permanent premises in the city in the next two or three years.

The Yard, which has been running for the past 30 years, is expanding its services across Scotland over the next decade.

Celine Sinclair, chief executive of The Yard, said: “This feels like a huge step forward for us and couldn’t come at a better time.

“The Yard has been working on developing a programme of national expansion across Scotland for the last two years, and this marks the first stage in this move to make The Yard a national charity providing adventure play services for children and young people across Scotland.”

Gill Thomson from the Hush Club said: “We couldn’t be more excited by this news.

“We have been working towards this since we first met up with The Yard last year, it’s what is needed in Dundee and will make a huge difference to the lives of disabled children and their families.”

Sara Lyttle, project coordinator of the under-12s club project, said: “We are very excited to be working alongside The Yard and Hush Club to bring this fantastic and much-needed service to Dundee.”

The expansion is being funded by the RS Macdonald Charitable Trust and The Yard also hopes to secure further temporary facilities in Fife this year.
