Police have questioned known local sex offenders in the hunt for a man who indecently assaulted a 13-year-old boy in Templeton Woods.
Uniformed and plain clothes officers returned to the woods today, as one of the detectives heading the investigation praised the bravery of the teenage victim, who was left “shaken, but unhurt.”
The Courier understands that a man was interviewed under caution on Monday night but subsequently released without charge and that other similar lines of inquiry are being pursued.
Detective Constable Paul McIlravey said: “These incidents are very rare. If there is any suspicious activity seen by people who use the area, then obviously make us aware.
“We don’t know if it’s someone who has been in the area days prior to this or whether it’s someone from outwith.
“We also have to pay tribute to the young lad who has been brave in firstly telling his parents and then involving the police so we can investigate this, because this was a horrible incident to be involved in.”
The incident occurred in Templeton Woods between 5pm and 5.30pm on Monday and police say they are keen to speak to a dog walker who have either witnessed the incident or be able to provide information to catch the attacker.
The boy was cycling on the green trail near to the Rangers Station sometime when he was approached by a man who indecently assaulted him.
The suspect is described as being five feet two inches tall and of medium to large build. His hair was white or grey in colour but was balding.
He was wearing a beige lightweight jacket with a round collar and pockets, blue jeans, a red jumper and brown dress shoes.
Officers are particular keen to trace a dog walker who was in the area at that time.
He is described as being in his 30s and was walking a black and white bull terrier type dog.
