A test drive of less than a mile has cost a man his driving licence.
Shaun Petrie went with a friend to try out a vehicle, but when his friend asked him to hop into the driver’s seat to see what he thought of the L-registered vehicle, passing police spotted the 22-year-old.
At Forfar Sheriff Court Petrie, of Clive Road, Dundee, admitted driving on an unclassified road near Duntrune on April 5 without insurance or registration plates.
The court heard Petrie has seven points on his licence and his solicitor urged the sheriff not to ban him.
Petrie had been employed by Dundee firm Muirfield prior to its collapse and now has to travel to Aberdeen for employment.
He had gone around 300 metres down the road before turning round and coming back, and police thought that was unusual and stopped him.
“The consequences for him under totting up are going to be fairly disastrous,” added the solicitor.
Sheriff Pino Di Emidio fined Petrie £300 and imposed a two-month discretionary ban.
