Doors Open Days will offer Dundee United fans a player’s view of Tannadice Park

Fans will have the chance to explore behind the scenes at Tannadice Park as Dundee United take part in Doors Open Days for the first time.

The Tangerines will offer an invitation to visitors to tour parts of the stadium rarely seen by the public.

A record number of buildings in Dundee will be opening for such in-depth exploration over the weekend of September 19 and 20, with the sheriff court and the Unicorn among first-time participants.

Dundee United had hoped to be involved on both days, only for a home league clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle to put paid to that idea.

With the club determined to take part, however, staff will offer a behind-the-scenes look at their home on the Sunday.

Doors Open Days has developed to become one of the city’s biggest annual community celebrations and 50 buildings will be opening this year, as well as taking part in events, tours and talks.

Places of worship such as Dundee Central Mosque and St Paul’s Cathedral will join in alongside the McManus art gallery and museum, Blackness Fire Station, Broughty Castle Museum, the Mills Observatory and Morgan Academy, together with the Caird Hall and Dundee Rep Theatre.

Dundee University, whose outreach team organises the event, will open nine buildings including the LifeSpace Gallery and botanic gardens.

“Doors Open Days is growing year-on-year and 20 of this year’s venues are new to the programme, so people from Dundee and visitors to the city will be able to visit more buildings than ever,” said public engagement coordinator Dr Jon Urch.

“Most buildings will be laying on activities for children and there is something to suit every taste and interest.”

Access to the buildings and participating attractions is free, but many tours fill up quickly and it is advisable to book in advance.
