An overhaul of parking in Broughty Ferry has been hailed as a victory for residents, businesses and shoppers.
Almost 80 new parking spaces will be created in the town following a detailed review of restrictions.
It will see lines removed from streets throughout the community, freeing up much-needed space for drivers who struggle to find suitable parking.
Broughty Ferry Traders Association spokesman Sandro Paladini said: “The association has worked in consultation with Broughty Ferry councillors over many years to look at ways of maximising our parking spaces while still keeping the flow required for a busy town centre.
“There has long been a shortage of available spaces, and the latest changes will go a long way to making things better for shoppers looking to visit our renowned independent shops.
“We are grateful to Dundee City Council, which has given this matter a great deal of attention.
“In past years there was pavement widening in Brook Street, and a new one-way system and parking and loading bays were hot topics at that time.
“The council knew it had to get the balance right between loading bays for businesses and short-term parking for shoppers and the disabled.
“These latest changes are a significant improvement and are extremely welcome.”
The changes will include the removal of waiting and loading restrictions in some places, and the reduction of “unnecessarily long lengths” of ‘at any time’ restrictions.
Other ‘at any time’ restrictions will be reduced to ‘no daytime waiting’, increasing the amount of evening parking available to residents.
Some disabled parking will also be removed.
Broughty Ferry councillor Brian Scott said: “The creation of 38 new unrestricted spaces and 40 limited spaces will be welcomed by everyone who lives in and visits the community.
“It is quite a significant increase,” he added.
The £9,000 cost will be met from the City Development car park account.
