Tributes have been paid to a Fife man who was killed while walking alongside the A91 near Collessie over the weekend.
Police confirmed it was 47-year-old Alistair Forbes who died in the tragic accident near the junction with the B937 on Saturday night.
Mr Forbes, who lived in nearby Giffordtown, was struck by a silver Volkswagen Beetle shortly after 9pm and paramedics battled in vain to save him.
News of Mr Forbes’ death has shocked the close-knit community and locals are struggling to come to terms with the tragic news.
His family were too upset to speak about the tragedy but released a statement via Police Scotland, where they described him as“a loving husband and father who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”
The Rev Bill Hunter, from Howe of Fife Parish Church, has been in touch with Mr Forbes’ relatives and said they were very much in the community’s thoughts.
“The family are obviously shattered and we’re all just trying to support them the best we can,” he said.“It’s quite a small community, everybody knows each other, and from what I gather everybody is rallying round.
“It is obviously a very sad time, and as a congregation we will offer them whatever help and support we can at this time of private grief.”
Mr Forbes, who lived with his wife Catriona and had two daughters, was well-known in the area as a talented carpenter, furniture maker and designer, and operated his own bespoke furniture business from his home at Four Acres in Giffordtown.
John Arbuckle, secretary of Giffordtown and District Community Council, summed up the sombre mood.
“It was a big shock to everybody in the village when we heard about it and he will be greatly missed,” he noted.
“He was an active part of the community and his family takes an active part in everything that goes on in the community, so I’m sure the whole community will pull together and support them.
“He was a very skilled carpenter and wood craftsman, and I suppose his legacy will live on in the many items of furniture that local people have in their homes.”
No charges are expected to be brought against the driver of the Volkswagen Beetle, and police have continued to appeal for witnesses.
