Emergency life-savers drop in on Perth for some helicopter training

Four emergency services came together in Perth to take part in a simulated rescue operation on the North Inch.

Passers-by may have been alarmed when they spotted the Sea King helicopter landing on the Inch on Wednesday, but the aircraft had been flown there by the RAF’s 137 Squadron as part of the training.

They were joined by Tayside Mountain Rescue, Tayside Police Search and Rescue and members of Tayside Fire and Rescue.

Stuart Johnston, team leader with Tayside Mountain Rescue, explained the point of the exercise.

”It was a level one trainee rescue operation, so that we could all work together in hovering and winching exercises,” he said.

”Being a short-term exercise, it basically brought all four agencies up to speed on canyon and water rescue.

”We chose Perth as a location due to the large body of people involved.”
