Motorists warned as roadworks on M90 and Friarton Bridge are set to start

Motorists who use the M90 and Friarton Bridge at Perth are being warned journeys may take longer due to major roadworks which start on Friday.

Around £625,000 worth of improvements and maintenance works are planned for four sections of the M90 over the coming weeks.

Starting tomorrow, resurfacing improvements are scheduled for the junction six northbound slip roads on and off the M90.

The work, which will last four days, is the continuation of a programme that began in December and will also see road markings refreshed.

The entry slip road will need to be fully closed throughout the weekend and a diversion will be in place.

As a safety measure, one lane of the M90 will be closed throughout the works.

From Saturday, the M90 at Balmanno Hill, south of Bridge of Earn, will receive improvements to 1km of safety barriers on both northbound and southbound lanes.

The scheme is phase one of two in a strategy aimed at improving safety.

Phase two will see works carried out at Glenfarg footbridge in March.

To allow the work to take place safely and for the protection of road workers, single lane closures will be in effect during the two-week construction period.

Starting on Sunday and lasting for three weeks, there will be ongoing maintenance of Friarton Bridge on the M90, between junctions 10 and 11.

Used by 35,000 motorists a day, works will be carried out between 9am and 4pm on Sundays and from 9.30am to 3.30pm from Monday to Thursdays, to help minimise disruption for road users.

Work will not take place on Fridays or Saturdays.

During the first week, one lane of the northbound carriageway of the bridge will be closed.

During the remaining two weeks there will be alternate lane closures on the southbound and northbound carriageways.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit representative, said: “We would encourage motorists to check the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and to allow extra time for their journey.”
