Hundreds of people are stepping out in Perthshire as they tackle one of the ultimate charity challenges.
Around 600 people will set off from Blairgowrie for the Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp intent on walking 22, 36.5 or even 54 miles in 24 hours.
The big winner will be ABF The Soldier’s Charity with more than £1 million raised by the event in the past three years.
Already one participant this year has collected pledges of £8,000 plus and an individual team has raised an incredible £30,000.
Some will be novices while others will be old hands in the gruelling event which takes over the famed Cateran Trail.
All start in Blairgowrie and the gold route finishes in the town as well while the shortest bronze route concludes at the Spittal of Glenshee and the intermediate silver ends at Kirkton of Glenisla.
Billed as an “exhilarating experience” the organisers say it is an opportunity to strengthen bonds with team-mates and “make memories to last a lifetime”.
While the latter might include blisters, tired limbs and midge bites, the participants are assured they have nothing to worry about.
“We have the highest quality medical and marshal support across the event to ensure the only thing you need to think about is the next mile,” said one of the organisers.
Hot food, drinks, cakes and refreshments are available along the way to refuel the weary and various diversions including clay pigeon shooting and archery will act as distractions.
The evening will come to a climax for those still standing with a firework display.
