A legal bid to retry a man cleared of murdering a teenage drama student more than 20 years ago has entered its next stage.
In May last year, the Crown Office applied to the High Court under double jeopardy legislation to set aside the acquittal of Francis Auld and prosecute him again over the death of 19-year-old Amanda Duffy.
Ms Duffy’s body was found on wasteground in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, in May 1992.
A hearing on the application got under way at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh on Tuesday, where three judges will later rule on whether a fresh trial can be held.
