A woman who died in a two-car crash on the A9 in the Highlands has been named by police.

Amanda Harold, 44, from Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, was driving a black Mazda 6 that collided with a grey Vauxhall Astra near Dalwhinnie at about 10.45am on Wednesday.

The male driver of the Astra and a woman and two young children also in the car suffered minor injuries.

The road was closed while police investigated the scene of the collision and officers are continuing to appeal for any witnesses.

A force spokesman said: “At approximately 10.45am on Wednesday, emergency services were alerted to a serious road traffic collision on the A9 near Dalwhinnie.

“The collision involved a black Mazda 6 and a grey Vauxhall Astra. Sadly, the sole occupant of the Mazda, a 44-year-old woman, died at the scene.
