Wildlife crime and prostitution raids helped add to the tally of bizarre forfeitures at Scottish courts.

A Glenrothes man had the skulls of a pilot whale and harbour porpoises and the tooth of a sperm whale confiscated after admitting owning and trying to sell endangered species relics as part of his “unusual hobby” in March 2012.

Meanwhile, a known egg thief from London was jailed for six months in 2012 for taking 20 wild birds’ eggs on the Isle of Rum.

In addition to the eggs, he was found with a kit including drill bits to make a hole in an egg and glass and plastic tubing for blowing out its contents, which was subsequently seized by a court in Inverness.

Three Romanian strippers who were convicted of running a brothel on Aberdeen’s Great Northern Road in 2014 had a treasure trove of sex toys, kinky underwear and 15 mobile phones seized by the court. The haul also included furry handcuffs, a pregnancy testing kit and KY Jelly.

A pink basque, rubber dress, two pairs of stockings and 26 condoms were seized after a London woman was convicted of running a brothel in the Granite City’s Golden Square in August 2012.

A shinty stick, paintball gun, underpants and a home tattooing kit were also confiscated in Scotland.

The only live animal forfeiture in the list obtained by The Courier was a Staffordshire bull terrier seized at Jedburgh Sheriff Court in September 2013.

Other strange forfeitures included a clothes peg, camping tent, body piercing rings, a cool box and baby wipes.

One offender had his pair of chinos confiscated, while a rolling pin, a radiator, a black wig and a foil-lined Disney bag were also taken.

A sheriff clerk in Glasgow even had to take delivery of a copy of Hustler magazine.
