Kyle McAusland, then playing on loan for Ayr United, in action against his new employers Dunfermline last season.

Dunfermline have made their second signing in 24 hours, with former Rangers midfielder Kyle McAusland joining the Pars through to the end of the season.

The East End Park board are backing new manager John Potter in the transfer market.

Andy Barrowman was brought in on Tuesday, while Jim Paterson arrived from Forfar last week.

McAusland had his contract paid up by Rangers earlier in the week, making him a free agent.

Brechin City boss Ray McKinnon, who has had the player on loan since September, was keen to get him back but couldn’t offer him full-time football.

He had previously been on loan at Ayr United on two occasions.

Meanwhile, Ross Forbes has gone in the opposite direction to Barrowman and joined Morton.

The former Motherwell and Partick Thistle midfielder joined the Pars last January and has featured in more than 30 games.

However, the 25-year-old’s contract was cancelled on Tuesday by mutual consent after discussions with Potter.

“Jim Duffy had asked about Ross and when I put that to the player he said that he wanted to speak to them. I did not have a problem with that. It was his call at the end of the day,” said Potter

“If he wanted to stay that was fine but if he wanted to go, then I would let him go. It frees up money for me to use elsewhere and helped get Andy Barrowman in. It suited everybody as I needed to freshen up the squad.

“If it means a few going out to let a few come in then I am prepared to do that.”
