Allan Johnston calling on Dunfermline to rediscover their scoring touch

Allan Johnston wants the Pars to rediscover their ruthless streak ahead of Saturdays trip to Airdrie.

Dunfermline manager Allan Johnston has urged his side to rediscover their ruthless streak after Britain’s top scorers failed to find the net in their last two matches.

The Pars have fallen a point behind Ayr United at the League One summit after battling out goal-less draws with Cowdenbeath and Peterhead.

And with tricky away clashes against Airdrie, Albion and Ayr United in the Scottish Cup on the horizon, Johnston is desperate to see his team build on the 52 goals they’ve already scored in all competition so far this term.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Airdrie, Johnston said: “We created chances at the weekend but so did Peterhead and on another day we could have scored a couple.

“We need to make sure we’re clinical when chances come as teams make it hard for us when they come here.

“They sit in and we have to find a way of breaking that down.

“To be fair, in the majority of games we’ve done that but we certainly need to get back to it quickly.

“Sometimes you’re going to go through spells when it doesn’t go your way and you don’t get the goals and that’s where it’s important that your defence are getting clean sheets.

“We’ve got a great recent record of not losing goals and that gives you a base to start from.”

Johnston admits games on the road might actually work in his team’s favour.

He added: “When you’re playing away, the onus is on the opposition to have a go at home and hopefully that will suit us.

“But it does not matter where we play, we have to be on the front foot and attacking teams.

“We’ve got a good record away from home and we’re looking forward to these games.

“It’s an important period.

“We’re trying to build on what we did in the last quarter and try to get more points, that’s the target.”
