Brechin on the brink of new club record

Brechin will set a new unbeaten league record if they can avoid defeat in Peterhead today.

It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Ray McKinnon’s men had set a new milestone when they drew with Dunfermline, their 16th match without loss.

However, a trawl through the club archives has revealed that the record was set in 1981 by the side managed by Doug Houston, who went 17 games without tasting defeat.

The present City squad equalled that mark last week when they drew with Airdrie and they will now attempt to extend their unbeaten league run to 18 games at Balmoor against a dangerous Peterhead side who beat Forfar in midweek.

McKinnon said: “We equalled the club record last week so there is a wee bit of an added incentive for the game up at Peterhead.

“But it is also another opportunity to keep the momentum and push going that will hopefully lead to something come the end of the season.

“Peterhead are right good side though and games against them are never easy.

“However, our players are in good heart at the moment and are playing well so we will travel north confident we can get the right result and continue our fantastic run.

“I have Paul McLean and our captain Craig Molloy suspended so there will be a bit of a reshuffle.

“I am confident though that the players coming in to replace them will do a good job.”
