Arbroath 3 Clyde 1: Red Lichties claim first win of year

Hat-trick: Bobby Linn.
Hat-trick: Bobby Linn.

Bobby Linn displayed a united front with his Arbroath team-mates as the entire squad crowded the home dugout to celebrate his hat-trick-clinching strike on Saturday.

Now the Red Lichties star insists they will need that unbreakable bond to help them smash Albion Rovers’ League Two title dream apart.

Linn’s 53-minute treble helped his side to their first win in 2015 ending a barren run of 10 games without victory ahead of Wednesday’s crucial table-topping clash with Rovers.

They can move to within a point of second placed Queen’s Park with a win and two off Rovers with seven games to play if they upset the Coatbridge side at Gayfield.

Linn said: “Getting a hat-trick is nice but this win was massive. Absolutely massive. You only need to look around the stadium after we scored.

“There was a lot of anxiety on the faces of the fans, they have been worried as we’ve been losing ground recently.

“But look at the reaction at my third goal.

We ran as a team to the bench. That shows we are all in it together.

“I instinctively went there after my goal.”

Linn blasted home a Simon Murray cross from six yards to make it 1-0.

He chipped home the second from 15 yards and darted to the edge of the box to drill in the third before Keigan Parker’s late consolation strike for Clyde.

Boss Allan Moore said: “We started the season so well that we are now taking a lot of stick for the bad run we have been on in the third quarter.

“But the irony is if we had won some games and lost the odd one here and there all season, no one would be saying we were struggling.”
