James McPake insists the club’s fans will see a completely different Dundee team in the New Year’s Day derby at Tannadice compared to the lacklustre outfit that slumped to defeat at Dens on Saturday.

The Dark Blues were big pre-match favourites against a St Mirren side who were rock bottom of the Premiership table and still without a permanent manager following the departure of Tommy Craig.

However, once they took the lead through Kenny McLean in the 28th minute, Dundee’s resolve crumbled and St Mirren eventually ran out comfortable 3-1 winners.

Now, McPake is determined that the Dundee squad will put things right when they play their city rivals.

He said: “The beauty of it is that we’ve got another game coming up on Thursday where we’ve got to make amends.

“You can lose games and come in and say we were unlucky today and hold your head up high.

“But today wasn’t one of those days.

“There’s a way to get beat but here we weren’t great at all.

“So the first thing you want to do is have another game.

“Thankfully it comes quickly enough for us.

“It’s a chance to put it right. We’ll have a big backing.

“There will be a big crowd and we owe the fans if anything.

“We owe the fans a performance, the manager, the staff and ourselves.

“Come Thursday it will be a different Dundee team I’m sure.”
