Pittodrie may well be the toughest venue in Scottish football outwith Celtic Park to attempt to pick up an away win but Kane Hemmings insists that’s exactly what Dundee will aim to do on Saturday.
The Dark Blues head north to face Derek McInnes’s side buoyed by their victory at Dens over St Johnstone last weekend.
They will be under no illusions about just how tough a task they face against the Dons. However, Hemmings stressed Dundee boss Paul Hartley will send his players out determined to take the game to their opponents.
Hemmings said: “We’ll go to Aberdeen with confidence.
“The gaffer likes to play attacking football. It’s never a case of going somewhere and just sitting in looking for a point. Our attitude is always that we can go to places and a get a positive result.
“Hopefully we can play the way we know we can by creating chances and scoring goals.”
Hemmings, who joined the Dark Blues this summer after leaving Barnsley, scored his first goal for his new side two weekends ago against Hearts and then notched another against Saints.
While delighted to open his account, he has been left slightly bemused over the manner in which he scored them.
Hemmings said: “I don’t know what’s happening with all these headers. I had never scored a header before in my life.
“But now I’ve got two headers in the space of a week against Hearts and St Johnstone I’m just delighted.”
Not for the first time this season, Dundee failed to capitalise fully on their first-half chances against St Johnstone on Saturday and Saints pulled a goal back to make it a nervous finish before the Dark Blues’ win was confirmed.
Hemmings admitted that Dundee really have to start killing sides off when they are on top.
He said: “Now over the next few weeks we’ll be looking to sharpen up over the second-half of matches and see games out a bit better.
“I’m sure we will. The hardest thing in football is to put the ball in the back of the net but we’ll get there.”
Meanwhile, Dundee boss Paul Hartley is sweating over the fitness of three key players for the Aberdeen game.
James McPake (dead leg), Rory Loy (groin) and Kevin Thomson (calf) are all rated doubtful.
