Dundee United have snapped up Finnish international attacker Riku Riski as they continue to strengthen their squad.
The 26-year-old, who has 26 caps for his country, played under Mixu Paatelainen when the Tangerines’ boss was in charge of Finland.
Riski goes straight into United’s squad for today’s Williiam Hill Scottish Cup fourth round clash against Airdrie at the Excelsior Stadium.
The new boy, who has joined on a deal to the end of the season from Norwegian side Rosenborg, was delighted to be reunited with Paatelainen.
Riski said: “I have known the head coach for many years and have worked with him for a long time at both club and international level.
“I look forward to working with him again.
“I see this as a great challenge.
“I follow the Ladbrokes Premiership and the situation the club finds itself in doesn’t scare me.
“I know what we have to do as a team and I will give my all every week.
“The football culture in Scotland is so strong and I am excited about testing myself in this environment.
“I relish the opportunity to perform for Dundee United and help the club go forward.”
Meanwhile, manager Paatelainen insists there will still be pressure on his players when they United take on the Diamonds this afternoon.
Paatelainen said: “It is a break from the pressure of the league but there’s always pressure because we want to do well in the cup.
“Whenever we play, whatever competition, there is pressure to win matches.
“Airdrie will be difficult opponents so we will have to be at our best.
“If we can win it, it might give us a spark but we are just looking at this game and trying to progress in the cup.
“That’s the priority this weekend, all our focus is on that.”
United have Ryan McGowan and Gavin Ginning both suspended.
Guy Demel and Mark Durnan are both free to face the Diamonds despite recent red cards, while Robbie Muirhead is available after returning from his loan spell at Partick Thistle.
