James McFadden scores for Scotland against France.
St Johnstone have brought James McFadden in on trial.
The Scotland hero will train with the Perth club this week, it has been confirmed, with a view to signing a deal.
Saints are on the look-out for an experienced striker to cover for Steven MacLean, who is out with a long-term injury.
McFadden (31), who has 45 Scotland caps and has not ruled out gaining more, has been without a club since leaving Motherwell in the summer.
The McDiarmid Park club revealed on their official Twitter account: “Saints have former Scotland man James McFadden training this week. Tommy Wright is assessing fitness of 31 year old and may chat re deal.”
