St Johnstone’s Michael O’Halloran is up for the cup

Michael O’Halloran insists St Johnstone are capable of going all the way to the final of the Scottish Cup once again.

Saints are, of course, the present holders of the famous old piece of silverware following their triumph over Dundee United back in May.

They begin their defence of the trophy next week against the opponents they beat on Saturday at home in the league, Ross County.

Like several other fourth round ties, it will be between two sides from the Premiership.

That insists O’Halloran is a big reason for grounds of optimism of another taste of what was for him an unforgettable experience.

He said: “I don’t think Saturday’s game will have any effect on next week. But if you win, you take confidence into the next match.

“We want to do as well as we can in the cup again as we are defending it.

“So we will approach the game with a bit of confidence but they will come here determined not to get beaten again.

“However, we know what we are capable of and hopefully we will go into that game and win it.

“The final was the best day of my life and you want to experience that again so there is a real determination about us when it comes to the cup.

“We were really disappointed to go out of the League Cup so we will be doing our very best to get as far as we can in this one.

“I think there are a few big draws in this round. The top teams in Scotland all seem to be playing each other so there will be a few big sides out.

“So if we can get ourselves through here into the next round, it is a great chance again.”
