Fife Flyers bounced back from a confidence-sapping home loss to Hull Stingrays on Saturday to record a 3-2 victory over the same side, to extend the gap between the two sides in the Elite League standings.
Two opening period strikes from blue-liner Chris Wands and hard-working Matt Reber put the Kircaldy side in the driving seat and, despite a late fightback from the spirited Stingrays, Fife favourite Ned Lukacevic sealed the victory on the power play.
In Saturday’s game, Flyers were 5-0 down after 35 minutes but recovered to claim three goals in the final session, Bobby Chaumont, Scott Fleming and Matt Reber netting.
Sean Ringrose was the hero for Dundee last night as the Stars secured a vital shoot-out win over Sheffield Steelers.
Goals from Kevin Quick and Igor Gongalsky were cancelled out by Sheffield’s Tyler Mosienko and sharp-shooter Jeff Legue sent the match to overtime.
Despite a number of chances, the home fans were made to withstand a shoot-out before ice cool Ringrose slotted home for the Stars to send the 800- strong crowd wild.
Stars were overpowered 6-2 by league pace-setters Braehead Clan in Glasgow on Saturday.
Paul Swindlehurst and Ringrose scored Stars’ goals.
