Angus joined the Commonwealth Games party as the shooting events got under way at Barry Buddon today.

There are five days of shooting events at the MoD facility by Carnoustie, with Tayside-based skeet shooters Sian Bruce and Drew Christie in action on Friday.

International visitors from all over the globe descended in Angus.

The chair of the area’s games steering committee said Angus is already feeling the positive vibe reverberating from the host city.

Jeanette Gaul said she was bursting with pride over the welcome already given to competitors and spectators to the area.

“Angus is proud to be a host venue for the Commonwealth Games and the work that has gone on to prepare for the event has been absolutely fantastic,” she said.

“The village is looking great, the town has been decorated and the flowers are out, and the whole of Angus is looking really good.

“I know the athletes who are staying in the town are very impressed with the area.”

The traffic arrangements to take guests to Barry Buddon were working smoothly on Friday, with shuttle buses and trains running from Carnoustie to the venue.

There was a large number of games volunteers near the Carnoustie Golf Hotel assisting visitors, as well as a police presence around the area and in Carnoustie itself.
