A teenager who brandished a samurai sword in public appeared at Arbroath Sheriff Court.
Daniel Norman Simpson, of Seafield Road, Arbroath, admitted possession of an offensive weapon at his home on October 5.
The court heard the 18-year-old held a party at his parents’ house attended by many people. Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said neighbours heard a disturbance at about 10pm.
She added: “They looked out to see the accused leaning out the window of the flat. He was shouting and swearing out the window in a threatening manner and holding a samurai sword in his hand and a sheath in the other hand.”
Defence agent Angela McLardy said it was a decorative item that had been hanging in the flat.
Sheriff Gregor Murray imposed a one-year community payback order including 160 hours of unpaid work.
