Angus Council is looking to splash out £5,000 on transforming a street into a giant flume this summer.
Local authority officials have announced they are willing to bankroll plans by local campaigners to transform Brechin’s City Road into a 200-metre waterslide.
A similar event earlier this month in Bristol saw almost 100,000 people apply for just 360 tickets to slide.
Brechin’s summer spectacular is being planned to coincide with the town’s annual Harley Davidson Festival on July 12.
Councillors are expected to vote in favour of the project when they gather at a meeting in Forfar on Tuesday.
And according to Bill Sturrock, who heads local community group BRAVO Brechin, the slide will be the festival’s crown jewel.
“It’s being done in Bristol, but that one is 90 metres long and we reckon ours would be about 200 metres,” said Bill.
“We’ve spoken to a couple of local companies, and Montrose Rope and Sail would be more than capable of assembling the materials.”
He added that project safety would be paramount.
“We’re going to use small rubber dinghies that people can sit in, so it’s safer,” he said.
“The base material of the slide would be a PVC material, and on top of that a membrane sheet, three or four layers thick.
“It’s very smooth and there’s little friction on it. That would reduce the amount of water we’d require to carry the dinghies down the slide.”Should the council back the plans? Comment below or email online@thecourier.co.uk
