Brechin’s cartie races could become a two-day attraction if plans to move the event up a gear come to fruition.
The plan was revealed after organisers BRAVO Brechin hailed Saturday’s event as the best since the soapbox spectacle on the closed of streets of the town was launched three years ago.
With the emphasis firmly on fun, but with a Scottish Cartie Association championship at stake for regular racers, around 30 carts took to fast course stretching from Brechin High Street, into Bridge Street and across the River Street finish line.
Local businessman Ian McIntosh of Duncan McIntosh Trailers scooped the honour of the day’s fastest time as BRAVO Brechin community group officials thanked the town and wider Angus for turning out in huge numbers.
Having suffered snow and torrential rain in the past two events, cartie race committee chair Gavin Brymer said a day of Angus sunshine had been the crowning glory for the event’s success.
