Black Friday got off to a fairly subdued start in Dundee today, with no repeat of some of the chaotic scenes witnessed in 2014.
Tesco supermarkets at Kingsway, South Road and Riverside opened their doors from 5am, with queues outside the doors forming as early as 4am.
But thanks to extra tight security measures, last year’s scenes of carnage were avoided.
Five police officers were on standby at the Kingsway branch, with two stationed at South Road and a further two at Riverside.
Only 50 people at a time were allowed into the store, to avoid the kind of crush that forced it to close last year.

There were some domestic tensions inside the shop as families struggled to carry all their bargains, but other than that the morning passed without any serious incidents.
Exiting the store, most shoppers were in a cheerful mood.
Teacher Fergus Leslie, 49, was happy to have bought Christmas present for his kids.
He said: “I bought some headphones that my kids want for Christmas they were half price.
“I’m quite pleased with that!”See DC Thomson’s Black Friday deal hereMike Andrews, an IT engineer from Stobswell, said he only came for a pint of milk, but came out with two TVs.
He added: “I got £180 off one TV and £50 off the other.My flatmates and I needed a new TV anyway, so seeing as they were a good price I got them.
“I only came out for milk!”
Buy Deborah McFie, a carer from Kirkton, wasn’t too impressed with the morning’s offerings.
The 29-year-old said: “There were no kids’ toys in the sale, it was all electrical goods.
“I did get a printer and two tablets, but I wouldn’t have got up so early just for that!”
Retail experts say Black Friday could become the UK’s first £1 billion online shopping day.
Experian-IMRG believes internet spending will hit £1.07 billion today, a 32% increase on last year’s £810 million the first time that online retail sales in the UK will surpass £1 billion in one day.
