Children have been praised for raising the alarm after a pensioner fell down an embankment on the outskirts of Dundee.

The woman, who is in her sixties, was spotted by the youngsters as she lay at the bottom of the 15ft slope at Burnside of Duntrune, close to Kellas.

The woman, who was left very badly shaken, was out walking when she slipped shortly after 5pm on Wednesday.

She was rescued after specialist fire crews managed to get her on to a stretcher.

After being carried to safety, the woman was taken to Ninewells Hospital where she was treated for shock.

Graham Nicoll from Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “The lady was spotted by children who quickly contacted local residents.

“She appears to have lost her footing while walking and subsequently fell down a steep embankment.

“Crews were able to lift the lady on to a stretcher and carry her.

“There was no requirement to use any specialist rope rescue equipment.

“There were no obvious signs of any injuries at the time of rescue.

“She was really quite fortunate to have been discovered, as the area the incident took place in is a quiet hamlet.

“I’m not aware of us ever attending this area before.

“She could have lain there for some time if it weren’t for the children who discovered her.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 5.20pm to attend to a lady in her sixties who had fallen and gone down an embankment towards a stream.

“The casualty was left very badly shaken and was taken to Ninewells Hospital.”
