Emergency response after passenger plane reports difficulties while approaching Dundee Airport

Dundee Airport.
Dundee Airport.

Emergency services were scrambled after a passenger flight reported difficulties as it approached Dundee.

The Loganair flight from London Stanstead eventually landed without incident on the city’s runway shortly after 5.30pm on Sunday.

There was brief concern, however, after the plane’s pilot reported concerns over his landing gear to Dundee Airport.

It’s understood there were more than 20 passengers on board at the time.

Operator Loganair was unavailable for comment.

Airport staff swiftly contacted Police Scotland in the wake of the radio message and coordinated a precautionary response.

Fire appliances were joined at the airport by police units and ambulances, while the Coastguard directed Broughty Ferry’s two lifeboats to the river Tay, off the airport.

Fortunately all were stood down within minutes as the alert proved to be a false alarm and the flight landed safely and without incident.

Police Scotland confirmed that it had been alerted by the airport and had instigated “certain procedures involving emergency partners”.

A spokesman for the RNLI said: “At the request of Aberdeen Coastguard, both lifeboats were launched to Dundee Airport after reports of an aircraft with 20 passengers on board having difficulties with its landing gear.

“Both boats were quickly stood down as the aircraft landed safely.

“The boats were swiftly re-fuelled and readied for service.”

Highlands and Islands Airports, which owns Dundee Airport, declined to comment.
