Scotland’s top cricketing talents have brought the sport’s World Cup trophy to Dundee.

Members of the Scottish national team, who are playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup, posed with the trophy at Discovery Point on Friday.

Players Craig Wallace, Preston Mommsen, Ally Evans, Gordon Goudie and coach Grant Bradburn also played an impromptu cricket match at the waterfront site, before taking the trophy to the City Square.

The trophy was taken on a two-day tour of Scotland as anticipation builds ahead of the tournament, which is being held in Australia and New Zealand in February.

Scotland international Wallace, who is from Carnoustie, said: “I’m delighted that the ICC World Cup Trophy is visiting Scotland and am proud to bring it to Dundee as part of its Scotland tour.

“As a team, we are thrilled to have qualified for the 2015 World Cup and are training intensively to ensure we are on top form on the international stage in New Zealand.”

Coach Grant Bradburn added: “This is an amazing opportunity. Having the actual World Cup in Scotland is a great way to promote the team and the tournament itself.

“Our preparations will begin shortly. We have 15 matches before the tournament, which will be a great opportunity for the guys to develop, as well show why they deserve to be in the team. We hope to play well in February.”

The CWC commences on February 14 and Scotland’s first game is against New Zealand in Dunedin on February 17.
