A CYCLIST has died after a road accident in Fife in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man was riding a bike on the A985 near Kincardine Bridge when he was involved in a collision with black Vauxhall Astra.

It happened at around 2am and it is understood the cyclist was travelling west towards the bridge.

The man was rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, where he later died from his injuries.

Fife Constabulary said no details about the deceased would be released until next of kin had been informed.

However, the force made an appeal for witnesses.

Deputy head of road policing, Inspector Brenda Sinclair, said: “We are investigating the cause of this crash and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the black Vauxhall Astra or the pedal cycle, or the immediate aftermath, or anyone who was in this area about 2am to contact the police on 0845 6005702.”

The road was temporarily closed to allow officers to carry out an investigation of the scene.

In a separate incident, the occupants of a car escaped serious injury when their vehicle hit a tree, also in the early hours of yesterday.

A woman had to be cut out of the car by fire crew after the collision on the B981, east of Dunfermline, shortly before 1am.

The collision happened just south of the junction with Clockluine Road.

As a precaution, the woman was taken to hospital, though it is understood she was not badly hurt.

The male driver of the car and another man sustained minor injuries.
