Plans for a new visitor centre at the West Sands in St Andrews went on public display for the first time at the weekend.
Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, which looks after the region’s beaches, gauged public reaction to the proposal to erect a £1.5 million centre, which will include toilets, showers, a shop, cafe and an exhibition.
The trust also hopes to create improved access to the beach, along with outside seating and space for community organisations.
The planned 26ft building has been described as looking like a nest of sea shells and will include a biomass boiler for heating and a number of small wind turbines.
Trust chief executive Amanda McFarlane said nothing was set in stone, however, and residents would be given their say.
“If people are saying we cannot live with something we will have to think about it,” she said.
