Special trains will be laid on to help St Johnstone and Dundee United fans get to the cup final next month, it has been confirmed.

First ScotRail revealed it will provide transport for more than 2000 supporters heading to Celtic Park on May 17.

Up to six outbound services will run to Glasgow Queen Street, provisionally timetabled to leave Perth between 9.30am and 11am and Dundee from 9.40am until 11.30am.

Although the direct line will remain closed to allow Network Rail to complete scheduled engineering works, an alternative route has been identified to ensure fans can still travel by train.

ScotRail is now working with St Johnstone and Dundee United to finalise details of how supporters can secure tickets and further information will be made available, but fans are advised that only those who have bought tickets in advance will be allowed on board and a no alcohol policy will be in place.

Managing director Steve Montgomery said: “We are pleased to be able to provide at least 2,000 seats on special trains to help fans of both clubs cheer on their teams at the Cup Final.

“Due to planned engineering near Stirling, it’s been a bigger challenge than normal to run these trains but we are confident they will be welcomed by spectators attending the big game in Glasgow.”
