Tens of thousands of pounds have been stolen in a raid on a cash transit and security company.

Between £60,000 and £85,000 was taken by thieves who broke into the premises of Loomis in Aberdeen.

A number of vehicles were used in the robbery, including a blue Mini, a white Land Rover Freelander and a black Hyundai X35.

The blue Mini was found abandoned at the scene but had been seen before the incident in the Altens area of the city.

The Land Rover Freelander and the Hyundai X35, which is also a 4×4 type vehicle, were recovered in Wellington Terrace in the Cove area following the incident.

Police appealed for information about the robbery which happened at Loomis in Souterhead Road in the Altens area of the city at about 7.35pm on February 12.

Detective Inspector Brian Geddes, who is leading the investigation, said: “It is believed that the people responsible may have also used additional vehicles to leave the area following the incident.

“Officers have been checking CCTV and carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area, and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who either saw anything suspicious, saw any of the vehicles we’ve described or any people acting suspiciously in that area, to contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they wish to remain anonymous.

“Likewise, I would appeal to anyone who was in the Altens area between 7pm and 8pm and saw anything unusual or suspicious to contact us.”

The Land Rover and the Hyundai were seen at various locations in the Altens area before and after the robbery.
